Legislator of Distinction Award

The Minnesota Federation of County Fairs has had such wonderful help from Legislators that have gone above & beyond to help the MFCF in legislation and other help to get our Fairs the help they need. So much so that in 2020, the MFCF created this award to to recognize those elected officials.

The Legislator of Distinction Award is a special recognition presented to legislators who have demonstrated outstanding support and advocacy for county fairs, agricultural communities, agricultural education, and agricultural development. This award celebrates legislators who go above and beyond in promoting the significance of county fairs as vital hubs of community engagement, agricultural education, and local economy.

The Legislator of Distinction Award honors those who have worked tirelessly to secure funding, pass legislation, and promote policies that ensure the sustainability and growth of county fairs, 4-H programs, FFA programs, agricultural education, and other related initiatives that support rural and urban communities. The award also recognizes legislators who play a crucial role in preserving the rich traditions of county fairs while adapting them to meet the evolving needs of modern society.

Qualifications:

Nominees for the Legislator of Distinction Award should meet the following criteria:


  • Advocacy for Fairs: Has actively supported county fairs, the Minnesota Federation of County Fairs, or related agricultural and educational initiatives through legislative action or advocacy.

  • Public Service Impact: Demonstrated leadership in promoting policies or funding that positively impact county fairs and rural communities.

  • Commitment to Agriculture and Youth: Shown a strong commitment to agriculture, youth programs (such as 4-H and FFA), and community development within the state.

  • Visibility and Engagement: Regularly attends and supports local fairs, engaging directly with fair boards, exhibitors, and community members.

  • Integrity and Partnership: Exemplifies integrity, cooperation, and dedication to the people and values that make Minnesota’s county fairs thrive.

Nomination Process:

Nominations may be submitted by any county fair, MFCF district, Associate Member, or other member of the Federation. The recipient will be selected by the Minnesota Federation of County Fairs Nominations Committee and recognized at the annual convention.

This award is a way to recognize those who go the extra mile to ensure that county fairs remain a central part of community life, agricultural education, and rural culture, and it encourages continued support for these events and the important role they play in local economies and youth development.
